Use Salesforce Classic template with Rich Text Merge Fields in Lightning Experience

In Lightning Experience, if you use a Salesforce Classic HTML email template and that template has a Rich Text Editor (RTE) merge field, the RichText to PlainText conversion may not respect the line breaks as expected in the text output.

For example, imagine that you use a Salesforce Classic HTML email template to generate an email alert. Say that the Rich Text Editor (RTE)
 merge field holds this value:

The email alert, which is text-only, shows “TESTTESTTESTTEST”, without including the line breaks.


Workaround:
In the RTE field, press Enter key twice to designate separate paragraphs. Using the previous example, you would enter this as the value for the field:
