Error "Unable to find default record type"/"Record type unavailable" when an email is sent from a record

Description
When trying to send an email from a record, user receives either of the errors below:  

Error message in Lightning Experience: "Unable to find default record type."
Error message in Salesforce Classic: "Record type unavailable. Cannot find default record type of the appropriate type."

This error occurs when no default record type set in Task object. While emails are considered to be a different object from Tasks, a corresponding Task record is created upon sending an email.

Assigning a default record type will resolve this behavior for each affected Profile.

To assign a default record type


Lightning Experience

1. Gear icon | Setup
2. On Quick Find box, enter Profile.
3. Open the profile of the user that receives the error.
4. Go to Object Settings.
5. Open "Task" object.
6. Click Edit.
7. Mark the radio button beside the record type you want to set as default
8. Click Save.

Salesforce Classic

1. Go to Setup.
2. On Quick Find box, enter Profile.
3. Open the profile of the user that receives the error.
4. Go to Object Settings.
5. Open "Task" object.
6. Click Edit.
7. Mark the radio button beside the record type you want to set as default.
8. Click Save.
