Error "Unable to find default record type" or "Record type unavailable" when sending an email from a Salesforce record

Publiseringsdato: Jun 21, 2026
Beskrivelse

When a user tries to send an email from a Salesforce record, they may receive one of the following error messages:

  • Lightning Experience: "Unable to find default record type."
  • Salesforce Classic: "Record type unavailable. Cannot find default record type of the appropriate type."

Cause: These errors occur when no default record type is set on the Task object. Although emails appear to be independent from Tasks, Salesforce creates a corresponding Task record when an email is sent. If the Task object does not have a default record type assigned for the user's profile, this error appears.
Resolution summary: Assigning a default record type on the Task object for the affected profile resolves this issue.
