Unwanted Custom Fields Display in the Salesforce Outlook Integration Side Panel — Managed Package Compact Layout Issue

Date de publication: Jul 1, 2026
Description

Unwanted Custom Fields Appearing in the Salesforce Outlook Integration Side Panel

When using the Salesforce Outlook Integration, unwanted or custom fields from a Managed Package appear in the Outlook Integration Side Panel on the Contacts object. This occurs even when those custom fields have been hidden from the Contacts page layout in Salesforce.
Root Cause: When a Managed Package is installed that adds custom fields to the Contacts object, those fields may still appear in the Outlook Integration Side Panel because the Side Panel uses the Compact Layout of the object, not the standard page layout. If the Managed Package's compact layout is assigned as the primary compact layout, the custom fields from the package are displayed in the Side Panel.

How to Remove Custom Fields from the Salesforce Outlook Integration Side Panel

The resolution is to update the Compact Layout Assignment on the Contacts object so that the System Default compact layout is used instead of the Managed Package compact layout.

In Salesforce Classic

  1. Go to Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find box, type Contact and select Compact Layout under Contacts.
  3. Click Edit the Compact Layout Assignment.
  4. Set the System Default as the Primary Compact Layout.
  5. Click Save.

In Salesforce Lightning Experience

  1. Go to Setup.
  2. Click Object Manager, then select Contacts.
  3. Click Compact Layout, then click Edit the Compact Layout Assignment.
  4. Set the System Default as the Primary Compact Layout.
  5. Click Save.

Note on Record Type Overrides

If the Contacts object has multiple record types, the Compact Layout Assignment page offers a Record Type Overrides option. The Salesforce Outlook Integration Side Panel follows the compact layout assigned to the record type override—not necessarily the primary compact layout. Verify that any record type overrides also point to a compact layout that does not include the unwanted Managed Package fields.
