Use a Proximity Circle in Maps

Дата публикации: Oct 13, 2022
Описание

Proximity mapping is a powerful tool because it gives the user the ability to focus on a geo-targeted area to drive analytics or use Mass Actions for planning. It can also provide a way to view overlap, white space, and hot spots.

Prerequisites:

There are several ways within Salesforce Maps to perform a proximity search:

1. Drawing a Proximity circle

Using the drawing tools a user is able to select the circle tool and drag a radius on the map to create a Proximity boundary. This creates a layer under the Layers tab where you can then isolate the records to appear within the layer.

2. Setting a Proximity circle around a marker

  • Click on a marker on the map to bring up the tooltip window.
  • Under the Actions tab select the button labeled Set Proximity Center.
  • This creates a layer under the Layers tab where you can then isolate the records to appear within the layer.

3. Default Proximity circles for a Marker Layer

  • In the Create/Edit Saved Marker Layer interface under the Display - Proximity options: Check Show proximity around markers.
  • You are also able to set the default radius and units of measurement in this menu. When this marker layer is plotted to the map, the markers will have static Proximity circles around them.

4. Set a Proximity to use as a filter for a Marker Layer

In the Create/Edit Saved Marker Layer interface under the Display - Advanced options - Marker Limits:
  • Check option Limit markers in a proximity boundary
  • Enter Address of Proximity Center
  • Enter Boundary Radius
  • Select Distance Units
This will put a red circle on the map to represent the boundary and only records within that geography will appear on the map.
Note: This function skips the geocoding process. If records have not been geocoded, they will not appear on the map.

5. Using the Add Boundary Button

From the Layers tab users can manually add a boundary. There are several boundary types and the Proximity circle is the first one. Once selected, enter your radius distance, unit of measurement, and the address to plot around.

6. Proximity Settings

If you want to view or adjust the Salesforce Maps Proximity settings, you can do so under the General section within the Application Settings. Refer to this article for configuration steps: Maps Application Settings
