Change the license type of a sandbox

Description


It is possible for an existing sandbox to be changed from one sandbox license type to another without refreshing the sandbox.  In order to do this we need to have a spare new sandbox type license. This will be used up during the sandbox type change. One thing to note is that you cannot clone the converted sandbox. We can only upgrade a sandbox license type. We cannot downgrade it, i.e. change sandbox type from higher type like Full to lower type like Developer.

Support can change sandbox license type like Developer sandbox to a higher sandbox license type like Full Copy sandbox. This can be provided you have a spare higher sandbox type license. 

 

To proceed with this request, ask a System Administrator to open a case with Salesforce Support and include the following acknowledgment in the case:

  1. Once a sandbox is converted to a higher license type, it cannot be cloned.

  2. If a cloned sandbox is upgraded, the upgraded clone cannot be refreshed properly. In this case, the sandbox must be deleted instead of refreshed.
