Five recommended custom report types for Account Engagement's Engagement History

Publish Date: Sep 30, 2025
Description

Overview

Engagement History allows you to access your prospect engagement data in Salesforce. That means that prospect activities, such as opening an email, clicking on a link or completing a form, can be more than just static information—you can report on them right in Salesforce, alongside your campaign and opportunity data.

But how do you actually report on this information successfully? Here you will find five recommended custom report types to be used for reporting on Account Engagement assets and engagement metrics in Salesforce.

The reports included are:

  • Engagement Metrics on Campaigns
  • Engagement Metrics on Landing Pages
  • Engagement Metrics on List Emails
  • Engagement Metrics on Marketing Forms
  • Engagement Metrics on Marketing Links

For every report mentioned here:

  1. Log in to your Salesforce instance
  2. Navigate to Setup
  3. Search for 'Report Types' in your Quick Find search bar
  4. Click on 'New Custom Report Type' and fill in all required fields

As you build these reports, note that you will also be building separate sections within a single report type—each of these sections will include its own layout, or a group of fields that belong to it.

To build a layout:

  1. Create a Custom Report Type
  2. Scroll down to the section titled 'Fields Available for Reports'
  3. Click Edit Layout
  4. Under 'Field Layout Properties', click Create New Section
  5. Title your new section, then drag and drop relevant fields

That's all you need to know! Now, let's dive in and learn how to build these five essential Engagement History reports.

*Note - The Account Engagement User, Sales Cloud User, Service Cloud User, or CRM User Permission Set Licenses and Permission Sets are required to view these objects in the report type.

  • To include only custom redirects or files, filter the report by the Type field.

NOTE: There is a Known Issue in which data will show blank for List Email object engagement metrics in a custom report specifically for none-admin Salesforce users. In order for none-admin users to be able to view List Email object engagement metrics in the custom reports, you would need to change Org-Wide default sharing settings for the List Email object from 'Private' to 'Public Read Only'.
