Salesforce For Outlook error 'This event can't sync because it was converted into a recurring series in Outlook'

ISSUE

The Salesforce for Outlook System tray icon will change to a red exclamation mark indicating that the sync has failed and if you double-click on the icon in the System Tray you’ll see one the error message 'This event can't sync because it was converted into a recurring series in Outlook.'

 
ROOT CAUSE
 
This will happen when a synced single event or meeting invite is converted to a recurring event or a synced recurring event is converted to a single event.

Salesforce for Outlook doesn’t support this conversion and it will fail with the error message.

The Sync.log file will contain this message when a single event was converted to a series
[Event] An error occurred in converting OL record <name of the event> of type Event. Error: Sfdc.Synchronization.InvalidUpdateOperationException: Detected a previously-synced single event that was promoted to a series in outlook
 
The Sync.log file will contain this message when a series is changed to a single event
[Event] An error occurred in converting OL record <name of the event> of type Event. Error: Sfdc.Synchronization.InvalidUpdateOperationException: Detected a previously-synced series that was demoted to a single event in outlook

 
REPRODUCIBLE SCENARIOS
1- Create a single event or a calendar invite in Outlook and sync to Salesforce, after syncing change the event pattern in Outlook to series.  Sync will fail on the next attempt

2- Receive a meeting invite in Outlook, accept the invitation meeting, sync the meeting to Salesforce. The organizer changes the event into a series and sends out an update. Receive the meeting update in Outlook and accept the change. Sync will fail on the next attempt
Lösning

Delete the original event from Outlook then re-create a new event and sync.  The sync will delete the previously synced single day event and create a new series of events in your Salesforce Calendar
