Mass Delete Records tool fails without error message

The Mass Delete Records tool is available to delete multiple reports and records at the same time. 

While working in the tool, users may report that the deletion page refreshes as expected but selected records continue to appear in the filter results. They also show when accessing the records directly through the associated object tab.

Always back up your data before performing any data operation. See Export Backup Data from Salesforce or Export Data for more details. It is recommended to run a test with a small subset of records to ensure the operation was successful through manually opening and verifying that the corresponding records are correct in Salesforce.

When a user attempts to use the mass delete records tool and the delete operation fails for a selected record, it's expected that no error message would be returned in the User Interface. Instead, users will find that the affected records are continually returned in the tool's search results which can make it seem as though the Delete isn't doing anything at all or not working properly.

Record deletions may fail for several reasons, some of which may be explained by the following circumstances:

1. Unable to delete Reports but no error message when using the Mass Delete Report tool

2. Accounts and contacts associated with cases cannot be deleted.

3. Contacts enabled for Self-Service, and their associated accounts, cannot be deleted.

4. Custom Apex code may prevent record deletion.

Since the mass delete records tool does not display error messages or reasons why the attempted delete operation may have failed, the easiest way for users to identify a potential reason is to navigate to an affected record and attempt to delete it directly form it's record page in the User Interface.  Users will be presented with an error message or other details on why they're unable to delete the record.

Alternatively, you may try to perform the bulk delete via alternative tools to see whether the result offers more insight into why the particular record(s) can't be delete. For example, in API enabled orgs you may try using an available tool such as Data Loader to Insert, Update, or Delete Data Using Data Loader and then Review Data Loader Output Files to identify a cause for deletion failure.
