When creating a new Salesforce Workflow Rule, the Email Message object does not appear in the object selection list.
Important: Salesforce Workflow Rules and Process Builder reach end of support on December 31, 2025. Salesforce recommends migrating all automation to Flow Builder before that date. See the Additional Resources section for migration guidance.
To make the Email Message object available in a Salesforce Workflow Rule, enable the Enhanced Email feature in Salesforce Setup. Once enabled, the Email Message object appears as an option when creating a new Workflow Rule.
Note: Enabling Email-to-Case also exposes the Email Message object in Workflow Rules, but this action cannot be undone. Enable Email-to-Case only if you intend to use that feature.
Since Workflow Rules reach end of support on December 31, 2025, consider building new automation using Flow Builder with a Record-Triggered Flow on the EmailMessage object instead. This provides more flexibility and is the supported path going forward.
