Salesforce Error: "This record is currently in an approval process" When Users Save a Record

Description

The error received via email by the System Administrator contains:


Error Occurred: The flow tried to update these records: null. This error occurred: CANNOT_EXECUTE_FLOW_TRIGGER: We can't save this record because the “<Process Name>” process failed. Give your Salesforce admin these details. An unhandled fault has occurred in this flow
An unhandled fault has occurred while processing the flow. Please contact your system administrator for more information. (-<error ID>).

Error element myRule_1_A1 (FlowActionCall).
This record is currently in an approval process. A record can be in only one approval process at a time.



This error occurs when a record that is already in the approval process, has been submitted again by another process.  Approval processes are designed to handle records in a sequential manner.  
 

Resolution

Check the list of flows

In Salesforce Classic

  1. Click Setup.
  2. Go to Create | Workflow & Approvals | Flows.
  3. Check the flow that submits a specific record from a specific object to an approval process.


In Lightning Experience

  1. Click the gear icon.
  2. Click Setup. 
  3. Go to Process Automation | Flows
  4. Check the flow that submits a specific record from a specific object to an approval process.


A record can only be in one approval process at a time.
