In Salesforce, certain files and attachments are not expected to generate a preview. This is by design and depends on the type of file, its source, or how it was attached to a record. This article describes the known scenarios where file or attachment previews are unavailable in Salesforce.

The following are known scenarios in Salesforce where file or attachment previews are not available. These are expected behaviors and do not require a support case unless the file type falls outside these specific scenarios.

Known Scenarios Where Previews Are Not Available

  1. General file preview issues — Circumstances outlined in the  Content file preview issues Issues article cover a broad set of unsupported file types and configurations.
  2. Email to Case attachments — Email attachments received through Email to Case are not available for preview in Salesforce. The attachment can be downloaded, but a preview thumbnail will not be generated.
  3. Inline images from Lightning Email Publisher — Inline images inserted using the Lightning Email Publisher are not available for preview.
