Hebrew data appears as '??' in Report export

Report results that contain Hebrew characters will appear as '??' in Excel (CSV or XLS) files exported from Salesforce.

Ratkaisu

Hebrew characters appear as question marks because the default Excel CSV encoding does not support Unicode characters. Exporting in Unicode (UTF-8) format and re-importing with the correct encoding setting restores the characters.

To view the hidden Hebrew characters, modify your settings in Microsoft Excel:

  1. Export the Report from Salesforce in Unicode (UTF-8) format.
  2. Open the saved file in Microsoft Excel.
  3. Click the Data tab.
  4. Click From Text.
  5. Select your Salesforce report export file.
  6. Select Delimited, then make the following changes:
    1. Start Import at Row "1"  File Origin: "65001 : Unicode (UTF-8)"
  7. Click Next.
  8. In 'Delimiters,' select Comma.
  9. Click Finish.
