Character Limit of Various Email Fields

Available in Group Edition, Professional Edition, Enterprise Edition, Performance (AKA - Unlimited) Edition, and Developer Edition


The maximum number of characters allotted per field (Classic):

  • To, CC, BCC Addresses = 150 email addresses across the 3 fields with up to 4000 characters per field
  • From Address, Name = 255 characters per field
  • Subject = 4000 characters

The maximum number of characters allotted per field (Lightning):

  • To, CC, BCC Addresses = 150 email addresses across the 3 fields with up to 4000 characters per field
  • From Address, Name = 255 characters per field
  • Subject = 4000 characters

These limits are hardcoded and can’t be increased. Visit the Salesforce Ideas Exchange to submit an idea or promote an existing idea to have this limit potentially increased in the future.

Note: If used with an email action button with Predefined Field Values for “To, CC, and BCC addresses,” the limit is up to 1300 characters per field or up to 48 Email addresses only.
