Use a rich text field in CPQ as the Product Description field

Step 1 - Enabling the Custom Product Description

1. Create your rich text description field on the Product object.
   1. Data Type: Text Area (Rich).
   2. Field Label: Rich Text Description.
2. Navigate to Setup | Installed Packages | Configure Salesforce CPQ.
3. Click the Additional Settings tab.
   1. Product Description Field: Rich Text Description.

Step 2 - Adding rich text to the product’s Rich Text Description field

1. Navigate to the product you want to edit.
2. Edit the Rich Text Description field.
3. Enter your rich text into the Rich Text Description field.
4. Include an embedded HTML image (e.g. external web address.) Internally embedded images are not supported.
   1. Click the insert image icon.
   2. Click the web address tab.
   3. Enter the image URL and description.
   4. Save your changes.

Step 3 - Add your product to a quote

1. Create a quote or navigate to an existing quote and click edit lines.
2. Click Add Products.
3. Select a product that has a Rich Text Description defined.
4. Save the quote.
5. Navigate to the quote line created and view the quote line’s Description field. Ensure that the value matches the product’s Rich Text Description.

Step 4 (Optional) - Viewing the Rich Text Description during product selection

1. Navigate to Product | Field Sets.
2. Edit the Search Results field set.
3. Replace Product Description with a Rich Text Description field.

Step 5 (Optional) - Viewing the Rich Text Description in the Line Editor

1. Navigate to Quote Line | Field Sets.
2. Edit the field set where you want the description to be displayed.
3. Add Description to the field set.

Considerations

• Choosing 'Rich Text Description' as your Product Description Field only alters the Quote-Line Product Descriptions for future Quotes. The descriptions on previously created Quotes are not altered.
• When selecting the Product Description Field in Salesforce CPQ’s package settings, you may have additional fields to choose from depending on which text fields you have available on your Product Page Layout (e.g. the "Specifications" Field is also a Rich Text Field").
• In order to share the rich-text image embedded into the Description after a Quote Document is generated, the sales rep must select the "Externally Available Image" checkbox on the "Document Detail" page.
