Gmail Integration Requests Access to Google When You Try to Relate Email to Records

Publiceringsdatum: May 4, 2026
Beskrivning

Every time a user tries to relate an email to a Salesforce record, the Gmail Integration side panel displays the following message:

"To add this email to Salesforce, we have to access your Google account. Give Salesforce access to Google?"

If the user clicks OK and enters their Gmail credentials, the same message appears again the next time they try to relate another email. This issue typically occurs when Gmail Integration is enabled with Inbox — specifically when the user is assigned to a permission set that has Inbox enabled.

Root Cause

This error occurs when one of the flags for Gmail Integration in the Authentication Provider object was not set correctly. When Gmail Integration queries for the OAuth token, the result comes back empty, which triggers the repeated prompt to the user.

Lösning

To resolve the repeated Google access prompt in Gmail Integration, the administrator must revoke the user's existing tokens and delete the Gmail Integration authentication provider from the org. After completing these steps, the user reconnects Gmail Integration from scratch and the prompt no longer appears.

Step 1 — Log Out the User from Gmail Integration

From the Gmail Integration control panel, log out the affected user and close the Gmail tab.

Step 2 — Revoke Tokens in Salesforce

  1. Click the gear icon, then click Setup.
  2. In the Quick Find box, enter users and click Users from the results.
  3. Locate the affected user and open their detail page.
  4. Under the Third-Party Account Links related list, revoke ALL entries for Gmail Integration and Gmail Integration with Inbox Auth. Providers for this user.

Step 3 — Delete the Gmail Integration Authentication Provider

In Salesforce Classic: Go to Setup | Administer | Security Controls | Auth. Providers. Type auth in the Quick Find box and click Auth. Providers under Security Controls.
In Lightning Experience: Click the gear icon | Setup | SETTINGS | Identity | Auth. Providers. Type auth in the Quick Find box and click Auth. Providers under Identity.
Then click the Del link next to Gmail Integration.

Step 4 — Reconnect Gmail Integration

After deleting Gmail Integration from the Auth. Providers list, the user should:

  1. Return to Gmail.
  2. Launch the Salesforce add-in if it is not already loaded.
  3. Connect it to Salesforce and follow the prompts to set up Inbox.
  4. Connect to the Gmail account again.

Gmail Integration will no longer prompt for permission to access the Google account.

If the Issue Persists

If the issue is not resolved after the steps above, try toggling Inbox off and then on again in the Gmail Integration settings:
In Salesforce Classic: Setup | Administer | Gmail Integration and Sync | Settings
In Lightning Experience: Gear icon | Setup | ADMINISTRATION | Email | Gmail Integration and Sync
After toggling, return to Gmail and try using the Salesforce add-in again.
