Salesforce Outlook Integration Side Panel Fails to Render Correctly in Microsoft Outlook Desktop

Publiceringsdatum: May 11, 2026
Beskrivning

You may experience one or more of the following symptoms when using the Salesforce Outlook Integration, Salesforce Inbox, or Salesforce for Outlook side panel in the Microsoft Outlook desktop application:

  • Outlook displays the message "You're not connected to Salesforce" in the side panel.
  • The side panel is missing the quick-create Publisher Action button (the + icon).
  • The Outlook Integration displays a rectangular grey box instead of the record.
  • Add-in errors appear in the Outlook Integration or Salesforce for Outlook side panel.
  • Content is not rendering correctly, or there is a compatibility issue with the displayed content.

Note: The side panel loads and displays content correctly when using Outlook on the web (OWA) but not in the Microsoft Outlook desktop application.

Possible Root Cause

A mismatch or incorrect value in the Windows Registry for the Outlook.exe key under the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION section is the most common cause of this issue.

Overview

The Salesforce Outlook Integration, Salesforce Inbox, and Salesforce for Outlook side panel may fail to render correctly in the Microsoft Outlook desktop application when the Windows Registry Browser Emulation setting for Outlook.exe is missing or has an incorrect value. The following steps explain how to set the correct registry value (11000) to resolve the rendering issue.
Note: To perform the following steps, you must have local administrative rights on your computer.

Step 1: Verify Internet Explorer Is Up to Date

Check the installed version of Internet Explorer and ensure the latest version is installed. If Internet Explorer is not current, contact your IT Help Desk to request an upgrade.

Step 2: Update the FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION Registry Key

  1. Open Windows Registry Editor:
    1. Press Windows + R, type REGEDIT, and press Enter.
    2. Or, use Windows Search to find REGEDIT.
  2. Navigate to each of the following registry paths (check each one that exists):
    1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
    2. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
    3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
    4. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION
  3. In the left pane, click on FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION.
  4. On the right side, look for the OUTLOOK.EXE value and verify its value is set to 11000.

If OUTLOOK.EXE does not exist, create it:

  1. Close all programs and exit Salesforce for Outlook (right-click the SFO system tray icon > Exit).
  2. Right-click a blank area on the right side of Registry Editor > New.
  3. Select DWORD (32-bit).
  4. Name the new value OUTLOOK.EXE and press Enter.
  5. Double-click the new value, select Decimal, and enter 11000 for Value Data.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close the registry editor.
  8. Open Salesforce for Outlook (or just Outlook if SFO is not installed) and test.

Note: Some applications on your machine may require a different value for this registry key. If the value reverts after a restart, contact your IT Help Desk.
