Storage for 'Historical Trending' data

Storage can be used in large amounts by objects when Historical Trending is enabled. The Historical Trending data is contained in a separate table named 'ObjectName (Historical)'. For example, for the 'Case' object, the Historical Trending data will be in a table named: 'Case (Historical)'.

To delete Historical Trending data and recover the storage space:


Export Data from the target object: "<ObjectNameHere> (Historical)" to keep as backup.


To delete it's data, disable Historical Trending:


Classic: Setup | Customize | Reports and Dashboards | Historical Trending
Lightning: Setup (gear icon) | Feature Settings | Analytics | Reports & Dashboards | Historical Trending
 
1. Select the object that you want to disable historical trend reporting on.
2. Uncheck Enable Historical Trending.
 

If you need to turn off historical trending for an object, keep these points in mind:

 
  • When you turn off historical trending for a field, that field’s historical data is deleted.
  • When you turn off historical trending for an object, all historical data and configuration settings are deleted for that object, including the object’s historical trending report type and any reports that have been created with it.
  • When you turn off historical trending for a field, and then delete that field, the field’s historical data will not be available if historical trending is enabled again.


Your historical trending report won't reflect the latest figures, because the historical data required exceeds the storage space available. Check with your Salesforce administrator to resolve the problem.


1. Go to Setup/Reports and Dashboards /Historical Trending setup page.

2. Add a filter and save the Historical Trending configuration for the required entity/object. For eg. Opportunity object.


When adding or updating a filter, it triggers a background job that copies data into a historical table. When the job completes successfully, an email is sent to System Administrator. When the state is Active, the Historical Trending data capture will be enabled.
