When saving a page layout in Salesforce, you may encounter the following error:

 

"This page layout name already exists or has been previously used. Your changes were not saved."

 

This error typically occurs in one of two scenarios:

 

  • The page layout name matches an existing layout or a previously deleted layout in the org
  • The Quick Actions in Salesforce Classic Publisher section of the layout contains duplicate actions
  • In both cases, Salesforce prevents the layout from saving until the conflict is resolved. This article explains how to identify which scenario applies and how to fix it.

How to Fix the Page Layout Name that Already Exists with an Error:

To resolve the duplicate Quick Actions issue, follow these steps:
 
  1. Once you confirm there are no other page layouts with the same name, click Edit next to the affected page layout and locate the Quick Actions in Salesforce Classic Publisher section.
  2. If there are duplicate actions listed, click the arrow on the right side of the Quick Actions in Salesforce Classic Publisher section to revert it back to the Global Publisher Layout.
  3. Click OK and then Save.
Removing duplicate actions from the Quick Actions in Salesforce Classic Publisher section resolves the error.
