Process Builder Considerations When the Name or Label of a Custom Field Is Changed

Behavior 1: Custom Field Label Updated

When a Custom Field Label is updated, any pre-existing Process Builder processes that reference that field continue to display the original Field Label. This is also true for new process versions cloned from those pre-existing versions.
To resolve this, create a new version of the process and select the updated Field Label for any Criteria or Actions in the process.
Note: This behavior does not cause errors with pre-existing processes, but it can be confusing to manage those processes later if they are not updated with the current Field Label.

Behavior 2: Custom Field Name (API Name) Updated

When a Custom Field Name (API Name) is updated, existing active processes may continue to refer to the old name and will fail.
To resolve this, save and activate a new version of the affected process. The new version picks up the changes to the Field Name and operates normally.
