'Notifications' Icon Does Not Show in the Experience Cloud Site

Issue Description

The Notifications bell icon may not appear in an Experience Cloud site when the Hide notifications icon in header option is enabled in the site's theme settings. This can happen when a site is first set up, or after a theme configuration change.


The notifications icon bell is not showing on the site as expected in the Enable Notifications in Experience Builder Sites documentation.

There are two ways to show or hide the Notifications bell icon in Experience Cloud sites:

Show Notifications Bell — Theme or Brush Section

  1. To access Experience Builder:
    1. In Salesforce Classic: Setup | Customize | Digital Experiences | All Sites | Builder of the affected Site
    2. In Lightning Experience: Gear icon | Setup | Feature Settings | Digital Experiences | All Sites | Builder of the affected Site
  2. In Experience Builder, click the second icon on the left sidebar (Theme or Brush icon).
  3. Click Theme Settings.
  4. Deselect Hide notifications icon in header.
  5. Publish to save changes and make them available to site members.

Show Notifications Bell — Settings (Gear Icon)

  1. In Experience Builder, click the fourth icon on the left sidebar (Settings or Gear icon).
  2. Click Theme.
  3. Click CONFIGURE.
  4. Click the gear icon on the theme layout of your choice, under the tab THEME LAYOUT COMPONENT.
  5. Deselect Hide notifications icon in header.
  6. Publish to save changes and make them available to site members.

Notes

  • The checkbox for 'Hide notifications icon in header' is not available for the theme layout component that has a Login Body Layout.
  • There is no option to show or hide the notification bell in communities that use the Help Center and Salesforce Tabs + Visualforce template.
  • If these changes don't reflect on your site, make sure to publish again.
