Salesforce Developer Edition organizations (also called Developer orgs) are free environments that provide access to a full-featured version of the Salesforce platform. They are used for building apps, learning new features, and testing functionality before purchasing in a production environment.
Developer orgs differ from paid editions in that Salesforce cannot provision additional licenses to existing Developer orgs. This means that features requiring new license types — such as Agentforce, Data Cloud, or other add-on products — will not automatically appear in Developer orgs created before those features were released.
If you are looking for a specific new feature and cannot find it in your existing Developer org, you may need to sign up for a new Developer org. New Developer orgs include the latest provisioned features available at the time of sign-up.
A Salesforce Developer environment gives you access to a full-featured copy of the Salesforce platform, for free, for an unlimited time. Use the Developer org to keep up with new features, build apps, and test functionality before purchasing in production.
Features that require no additional license or permission set license are present in any Developer org, whether new or old. An example is Lightning Experience — it is present and available in all Developer orgs. If a generally available feature is not visible in your Developer org and you want it enabled, contact Salesforce Support.
Salesforce cannot add new license types to existing Developer orgs. When you sign up for a Developer org, the licenses available at that time are provisioned. Later, when new features are released that require a new license type, those features will not appear in your older Developer org.
If you need to test features that require a specific license type — such as Agentforce, Data Cloud, or Marketing Cloud — sign up for a new Developer org, since new Developer orgs include the most recent provisioned features.
