Account Engagement Sync Error: "Invalid Picklist Value: Bad Value for Restricted Picklist Field: XXX"

Publish Date: Sep 30, 2025
Description
This is a common sync error that can appear in Account Engagement. This error means that the value specified in the error message isn’t allowed by the picklist for the corresponding field in Salesforce.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, with the help of your Salesforce Administrator:

1. Verify that the value in the Account Engagement field is listed within the picklist for the corresponding Salesforce field. Sometimes the value is spelled incorrectly or the value is inactive.
NOTE: Account Engagement has to use the 'API name' of the field when saving values to Salesforce and NOT the string listed in the 'value' column of the picklist table.

2. Verify if this Salesforce field's picklist is dependent on another field in Salesforce (also known as the controlling field). If yes, verify that the value in Account Engagement is allowed based on the controlling field by reviewing the field dependency matrix. Read Salesforce documentation for additional information on dependent picklists. Ensure you’re providing that appropriate controlling field value along with the child value to Salesforce in the update.

3. Verify if this Salesforce field's picklist is restricted by record type. Read Salesforce documentation for additional information on editing picklists for record types.

4. In Account Engagement, follow these instructions.
