When a user selects a Contact under an Account record and creates a new Opportunity from the Contact's Opportunities related list, Salesforce automatically populates the Opportunity's Lead Source field with the same value as the Contact's Lead Source field, instead of using the default Lead Source picklist value. This is expected product behavior.
Click on a Contact record.
Navigate to the Opportunities related list.
Click New Opportunity.
Observe that the Opportunity Lead Source field is automatically populated with the Contact's Lead Source value instead of the default picklist value.
To work around this behavior, create the Opportunity from another location, such as the Account record or the Opportunity tab.
When a new Opportunity is created from a Contact's related list, Salesforce automatically inherits the Contact's Lead Source value instead of using the default picklist value. This is expected product behavior.
To prevent this behavior, you can create a custom Quick Action on the Contact object that allows the Lead Source field to remain blank when creating a new Opportunity.
Follow the steps below for Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience.
Click Setup.
Navigate to Build | Customize | Contact | Buttons, Links, and Actions.
Click New Action and configure the following:
Action Type: Create a Record
Target Object: Opportunity
Relationship Field: Contact

Label: New Opportunity
Click Save.
Add the Lead Source field to the Action Layout.
Click Save.
