Use default 'Lead Source' picklist values a new Opportunity from the Contact object is created

When the User selects the Contact under the Account record and creates a new Opportunity, the Lead Source picklist field will auto populate with the same value which mirrors the Contact Lead Source instead of selecting the default Lead Source value.

 

Reproduction steps

1. Click on a Contact record.
2. Go to the 'Opportunities' Related List.
3. Click New Opportunity.
4. You will see the 'Lead Source' for the Opportunity, which will be the same as the Contact 'Lead Source.'



To work around this default behavior of the Lead Source, create the Opportunity from another location, such as from the Account or directly using the Opportunity. tab.

  1. Creating a New quick action

Salesforce Classic


Creating a New quick action

 
1. Click Setup.
2. Go to Build | Customize | Contact | Buttons, Links, and Actions
3. Click New Action.

 
Action Type: Create a Record
Target Object : Opportunity
Relationship Field: Contact
Record Type : (Choose the record type for creating opportunity)
Label: New Opportunity

 

4. Click Save.
5. The user will be directed to Action: New Opportunity.
6. Drag and drop the "Lead Source Field" to the Action layout.
7. Click Save.
 

Add the New Opportunity on Contact Page Layout

 
1. Go to the Contact Page Layouts.
2. Click the desired Page Layout that the user wanted to add the newly created opportunity quick action.
3. Go to the Contact Layout Panel.
4. Click the quick action.
5. Drag and drop the "New Opportunity" from the Quick Action Panel to the Actions Quick Actions in the Salesforce Classic Publisher.
6. Click Save.
 

Create a New Opportunity within a Contact Record

 
1. Click any contact record.
2. Click the Show Feed.
3. Search for the "New Opportunity" quick action.
4. Create a new opportunity record and ensure that the 'Lead Source' field is blank, so that there is no value to prepopulate into the 'Opportunity Lead Source.'
5. Click Save.

Note: You will noticed that the new opportunity record created does not prepopulate by 'Lead Source' field of the contact record

 

Lightning Experience

 

 

Creating a New quick action

 
1. Click the Gear Icon | Setup | Object Manager| Contacts
2. On your left, click the Buttons, Links, and Actions.
3. Click the New Action.

 

Action Type: Create a Record
Target Object : Opportunity
Relationship Field: Contact
Record Type : (Choose the record type for creating opportunity)
Label: New Opportunity

 

4. Click Save.
5. The user will be directed to Action: New Opportunity.
6. Drag and drop the "Lead Source Field" to the Action layout.
7. Click Save.
 

Add the New Opportunity on Contact Page Layout

 
1. Go to the Contact Page Layouts.
2. Click the desired Page Layout that the user wanted to add the newly created opportunity quick action.
3. Go to the Contact Layout Panel.
4. Click Mobile & Lightning Action.
5. Drag and drop the "New Opportunity" from the "Mobile & Lightning Action" to the "Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions"
6. Click Save.
