Set the default group notification email and its frequency via Data Loader

Set Default Group Notification Email

This will be the Users group notification frequency the moment they join a new group.
 

1. Open Data Loader.
2. Click on Export.
3. Login with your Salesforce credentials.
4. Select User from the list of objects.
5. Enter desired file name and click on Next.
6. Select ID, DEFAULTGROUPNOTIFICATIONFREQUENCY, and any other fields that will help you to identify the desired User. 
7. Click on Next.
8. Click on Finish.
9. Open the file and set the frequency by using the following:

• P for Email every Post
• D for Daily
• W for Weekly Digest
• N for Never

Note: When Users Navigate to Chatter Email Settings, N or Never is displayed in the User interface as 'Limited.'

10. Save the file.
11. On Data Loader, click on Update.
12. Once again, select User.
13. Choose the recently saved file, click on Next.
14. Match ID and DEFAULTGROUPNOTIFICATIONFREQUENCY.
15. Click on Finish.

Set notification frequency per Group

1. Open Data Loader.
2. Click on Export.
3. Login with your Salesforce credentials.
4. Select Show all Salesforce objects.
5. Select Group Member (CollaborationGroupMember).
6. Enter desired file name, click on Next.
7. Select ID, Notification Frequency, and any other fields that will help you to identify the desired User and group.

Add COLLABORATIONGROUPID Equals {Id} as criteria to only export from a certain Chatter Group.

8. Open the file and set the frequency by using the following:

• P for Email every Post
• D for Daily
• W for Weekly Digest
• N for Never (displayed in the user interface as 'Limited.')

9. Save the file.
10. On Data Loader, click on Update.
11. Once again, select Group Member (CollaborationGroupMember).
12. Choose the recently saved file, click on Next.
13. Match ID and Notification Frequency.
14. Click on Finish.

An administrator can follow the steps above to either enable or turn off email notifications for Chatter groups. To turn off all Chatter emails for users, review Disable email notifications for all Chatter Users via Data Loader.
