Help content and prerequisites

Version considerations

Note: You must have SFO version 3.x or later installed in order to connect to Salesforce servers due to TLS 1.0 disablement.

To see which version of Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) plugin is installed on your computer, see Check which version of Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) is installed.

  • Microsoft Outlook 2007 is no longer supported by Microsoft or Salesforce. See Office 2007 has reached end of extended support for details.
  • SFO versions 2.8 and later are available with installation options for Per User ('Me Only') and Per Machine ('Everyone who logs in to this computer'). It can be installed by the end user who does not have admin rights (Me Only) or a system or admin account (Everyone who logs in to this computer).
  • You can also install the app with the 'Me Only' option even if you have admin rights
  • For 'Per Machine' installations (installed using the 'Everyone who logs in to this computer' option)
  • You may need to set the Windows UAC to Never Notify to be able to uninstall and install the application correctly. Even though these versions must be installed and uninstalled by a local administrator, please review Turn off User Account Control in Windows.
  • Any installations that are installed in the Program Files folder by your Windows Administrator or IT team must be uninstalled and installed by the computer Administrator or your internal Help Desk (someone with Local admin privileges).

  • SFO versions 2.5 thru 2.7.x must be installed or uninstalled an actual user, not a system or admin account. If there are more than one user logging into a computer, they need to login to their Windows profile and uninstall SFO personally.
  • SFO versions 2.4.2 and earlier
  • Must be uninstalled and installed by the computer Administrator or your internal Help Desk (someone with Local admin privileges) as well as all the prerequisites (such as VSTO, PIA, etc.). Refer to your internal Help Desk or IT team to login to your computer and uninstall SFO 2.4.2 before installing another version using the 'Me Only' option.
  • Refer to your internal Help Desk or IT team to uninstall SFO 2.4.2 and earlier if you are upgrading or planning on installing SFO 2.8 and later for everyone. See the Salesforce for Outlook Installation Diagram for more support.
  • SFO versions 2.4 and earlier - For 'Per Machine' installations, you may need to set the Windows UAC to Never Notify to be able to uninstall and install the application correctly. Even though these versions must be installed and uninstalled by a local administrator, please review Turn off User Account Control in Windows Vista or Windows 7, 8, or 10.

If you are uninstalling to install a new version of SFO, remove the old Salesforce for Outlook database files in C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\salesforce.com\Salesforce for Outlook\DB\, then go directly to the 'Install Salesforce for Outlook (SFO)' section below.

2) I want to remove all the user data

  2. Next, Press Windows R on your keyboard to open the 'Run' command prompt screen.

*If you run into any problems uninstalling the Salesforce for Outlook, you can refer to
this knowledge article and use the Microsoft utility listed there

Outlook 2007

  • Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA)
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime x64 or x86 (VSTO)

Outlook 2010

  • Microsoft Office 2019 Primary Interop Assemblies (PIA)
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office Runtime x64 or x86  (VSTO)

Outlook 2013, 2016, and 365

Most probably you won't have anything to remove. The PIA is already included in the Office installation and it won't get installed on your machine. VSTO is not installed by the SFO installer either, but you can remove it from your machine if you see it under the list of installed applications in the Control Panel.

With these steps complete, you have uninstalled SFO from your computer.
