New Picklist Field Value Not Visible on Record Due to Field Dependency in Salesforce

Udgivelsesdato: Jun 30, 2026
Beskrivelse

When adding a new value to an existing picklist field in Salesforce, you also have the option to add the value to existing record types. However, if the picklist field is part of a field dependency (where a Controlling Field determines which picklist values appear), the new value may not be visible on records even after it has been added to the record type.
This happens because field dependencies must also be updated separately to include the new value in the dependency matrix for the relevant controlling field values.

Løsning

When a picklist field is controlled by a dependency, adding a new value to the picklist does not automatically include it in the dependency. You must update the Field Dependency matrix to include the new value under the appropriate controlling field values. Follow the steps below to check and update the field dependency.

Check and Update the Field Dependency

In Salesforce Classic

  1. Navigate to:
    1. Standard Object: Setup | Customize | (object name) | Fields | Custom Fields & Relationships | Field Dependencies
    2. Custom Object: Setup | Create | Objects | (object name) | Fields | Custom Fields & Relationships | Field Dependencies
  2. Locate the affected picklist field in the Field Dependencies list.
  3. Click Edit on the relevant dependency.
  4. In the dependency matrix, select the new picklist value in the Dependent Picklist column.
  5. Click Include Value to add it for the relevant Controlling Field values.
  6. Click Save.

In Lightning Experience

  1. Navigate to Setup | Object Manager | (object name) | Fields & Relationships | Field Dependencies.
  2. Locate the affected picklist field.
  3. Click Edit on the relevant dependency.
  4. In the dependency matrix, select the new picklist value in the Dependent Picklist column.
  5. Click Include Value to add it for the relevant Controlling Field values.
  6. Click Save.

After completing these steps, the new picklist value is available on records when the appropriate controlling field value is selected.
