Issue

Duplicated side panel in Outlook after installing Salesforce For Outlook (SFO). If a User tries to minimize the side panel using the >> icon, the side panel gets doubled when minimized (2 vertical Salesforce banners).

Possible Root Causes:

  • Corrupted install or previously SFO unsuccessful installation or uninstallation that left SFO files in the registry.
  • Corrupted or duplicated Office files installation.
  • Your Internet Explorer (IE) is not up to date. Make sure you upgrade to the latest version. IE 11 preferably. Refer to the Microsoft Article: 'Which version of Internet Explorer am I using?

You would also need to know your Windows bitness to be able to update your IE. Please refer to the Microsoft KB: How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system

You can download Internet Explorer  (IE11) from Microsoft

Important:
This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: How to back up and restore the registry in Windows: KB 322756

  1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box or the Search programs and files box, and then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify

  1. In the Details pane, click the IconStreams registry entry.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
  3. In the Details pane, click the PastIconsStream registry entry.
  4. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
  5. Exit Registry Editor.
  6. Restart the Explorer.exe process. To do these, follow these steps:

  1. Press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC.
  2. On the Processes tab in Task Manager, click the explorer.exe process, and then click End Process two times. If you are unable to find the explorer.exe process, the easiest way is to restart your machine.
  3. On the File menu, click New Tasks (Run), type explorer, and then click OK.
  4. Exit Task Manager.

If you are running Windows 7, follow these additional steps:

  2. Click Turn system icons on or off, and then set Volume, Network, and Power System to On.
  3. Click OK, make sure that the behavior for Power, Network, and Volume are set correctly, and then click OK.

  1. Press and hold down the Windows key + R key to open up the Run Command, enter Appwiz.cpl to open the list of installed programs.
Search for Microsoft Office installation and run a repair on it. If 'Office Click to Run' or 'Office 365' is installed, then make sure to run an On-line Repair not a Quick Repair. Restart when it's done.

  1. Download the SFO .exe version, do not use the .MSI version (.MSI is not a smart installer and does not check for anything).

  1. Install SFO using the Per-user option (Me Only option).

  1. Open Outlook and your side panel should load correctly.

  1. To minimize the side panel, you can add the Show/Hide button to your Outlook toolbar. See the knowledge Article Number 000186485 for more information.
