Task Notification Limitations in Salesforce Lightning Experience

Winter '18 introduces Task notifications in Lightning Experience with Help Reps Stay on Task with Task Notifications.

 
Note: Task Notification isn't available for Personal, Essentials, and Professional Edition. Notification bell updates don’t appear in real time and require a browser refresh to see the latest notifications.  


This feature doesn’t yet have full feature parity with the pre-existing reminder functionality in Salesforce Classic.

An administrator must apply the 'Reminder Set' field to the Task page layouts for users to begin setting Task reminders in Lightning. Note: When creating tasks under Activity Timeline, New Task global action has a different layout so you must add the 'Reminder Set' field there as well.

Keep the following behaviors and limitations in mind:

 

  • When creating a Task with a due date of today in Lightning Experience, the default reminder time is automatically set to the next hour.
    For example, if you create a Task due today at 9:05 AM, the default reminder time automatically sets to 10:00 AM. This behavior is independent of the default reminder time configured in Activity Reminder Settings in Salesforce Classic. If the Task's due date is set to a future day, the reminder time uses the default selection from Activity Reminder settings.
  • Features Not Yet Available in Lightning Experience

    • Snooze — The Snooze feature available in Salesforce Classic is not yet available in Lightning Experience. Consider promoting the idea Lightning Task Reminder Snooze on IdeaExchange.
    • Play Reminder Sound — The "Play Reminder Sound" option is not available in Lightning for Activities.
  • Lightning Community Considerations

    • Lightning Experience must be enabled in order for Task reminders to show up in the Universal Notification Service (UNS) notification bell icon in Lightning templated Communities. See Enable Task Notifications in Lightning Experience for more details.
    • In Lightning-based communities, Task reminders are visible in the UNS Bell icon however, Task Reminder Cards aren’t available. Also, The 'Show Reminders' preference in Classic (under My Settings > Calendar & Reminders > Activity Reminders) must be enabled for the community user. See Enable Notifications in Lightning Communities for more information.
