Account Engagement rewriting email links

Date de publication: Sep 30, 2025
Description

All Account Engagement email links are rewritten for each recipient once you send the email. Below is the reason why, and how you can prevent this from happening if you choose to.

Résolution

Account Engagement will rewrite email links for sent emails. This is the expected behavior to better track engagement. To track link clicks, Account Engagement rewrites URLs in your emails and creates a new URL specific to the receiving prospects. This is how we know when prospects click links from their emails. This also applies for all hyperlinks in emails. Clicking a tracked link will set a cookie in your browser for the prospect to whom the email was originally sent.

Once the recipient clicks any of the unique links generated specifically for them, their activities can be tracked for more personalized marketing content.

Exceptions:

  • As noted in this email link tracking article, you can use specific URL scenarios to prevent these links from rewriting in your emails.
  • You can also use the instructions in this article to hide the rewritten link for cosmetic reasons.
  •  To ensure the links in your email are correctly rewritten, review this article on URL encoding in emails

Additional Notes:

  • Tracked links older than 2 years will expire and the activity for these links won’t be tracked. This includes email-tracked links, email preference page links and resubscribe links.
  • Given the intended purposes of uniquely tracked links, forwarding emails will cause Visitor Association Change
