This article provides an overview and setup guide for the Salesforce Gmail Integration, which allows Salesforce users to access Salesforce records, log emails, track email activity, and view related Salesforce data directly within Gmail using a Chrome browser extension.
Before setting up the Gmail Integration, administrators must enable Enhanced Email in the Salesforce org. Enhanced Email stores sent emails as EmailMessage records (rather than Task records), enabling richer email tracking, reporting, and visibility in Salesforce.

To set up Gmail Integration for your Salesforce org, complete the following steps in order:
Step 1 — Enable Enhanced Email
Enhanced Email must be enabled before activating Gmail Integration. Follow the instructions in Setup Enhanced Email.
Step 2 — Turn On Gmail Integration in Salesforce
Navigate to Setup > Gmail Integration and Sync in Salesforce and enable the Gmail Integration. See Turn On the Integration with Gmail in Salesforce for detailed instructions.
Step 3 — Configure Enhanced Email Settings for Gmail
Configure how Salesforce stores and tracks emails from Gmail. See Enhanced Email and the Gmail Integration.
Step 4 — Users Install the Gmail Integration Chrome Extension
Each user must install the Gmail Integration Chrome Extension from the Chrome Web Store. See Get the Gmail Integration for installation instructions.
Step 5 — Connect to Salesforce in Gmail
After installing the extension, users connect their Salesforce account within Gmail. The Salesforce panel will appear in Gmail, allowing users to view related records, log emails, and access Salesforce activity directly from their inbox.
Optional — Extend with Inbox Features
Administrators can extend the Gmail Integration with Inbox features, including email tracking, Einstein Activity Capture (automatic email and event logging), and meeting scheduling tools. See Extend the Outlook and Gmail Integrations with Inbox.
