Error “We can't convert this Lead” on Lead Conversion

Veröffentlichungsdatum: Apr 2, 2026
Beschreibung

Users may encounter the following error when converting a Lead:

“We can't convert this lead because some values are restricted on the contact, account, or opportunity. Ask your admin to check the field mappings.”

This typically happens when a picklist field on the Lead is mapped to a restricted picklist field on Account, Contact, or Opportunity, and the value on the Lead does not exist in the target field.

The “Restrict picklist to the values defined in the value set” setting enforces that only predefined values can be used. If the values don’t match between mapped fields, lead conversion fails.

Note: Temporarily disabling the Restrict picklist setting can help isolate the issue. However, this is not possible for global picklists, as the restriction cannot be disabled.

Lösung

Lead conversion relies on field mappings and matching picklist values between Lead and target objects (Account, Contact, Opportunity). Any mismatch—especially with restricted picklists or record types—can cause this error.

Step 1: Review Lead Field Mappings

Navigate to Lead field mapping:

Lightning Experience:

  1. Click Setup (⚙️)
  2. Go to Object Manager
  3. Select Lead
  4. Click Fields & Relationships
  5. Click Map Lead Fields

Salesforce Classic:

  1. Go to Setup
  2. Navigate to Customize → Leads → Fields
  3. Click Map Lead Fields

Review which Lead picklist fields are mapped to Account, Contact, or Opportunity fields.

Step 2: Ensure Picklist Values Match

  • Confirm that the target picklist fields contain the same values as the Lead field
  • Add any missing values to the target object (Account, Contact, Opportunity)

Step 3: Check Record Type Value Availability

If record types are enabled:

  • Ensure the required picklist values are included in the selected values for the record type
  • Verify the default record type assigned to the user performing the conversion

Step 4: Review Global Picklists and Dependencies

If using global picklists or dependent picklists:

  • Ensure the mapped field is a controlling field, not dependent
  • If the value is dependent, update configuration:
    1. Go to Setup → Object Manager
    2. Select the relevant object (Account, Contact, or Opportunity)
    3. Click Record Types
    4. Open the affected record type
    5. Set or update the controlling field value

Step 5: Optional Troubleshooting

  • Temporarily disable “Restrict picklist” (if not a global picklist) to confirm the root cause
  • Re-enable after validation to maintain data integrity
