After updating a Case page layout to add or remove fields from the Highlights Panel, the changes may not be reflected when viewing the Case record. The Highlights Panel continues to show the old fields instead of the ones configured in the updated layout.
This behavior occurs in organizations that still have the Legacy Case Feed feature enabled. Legacy Case Feed was deprecated in the Spring '14 release of Salesforce, and new organizations created after that release do not have this feature enabled by default.
When Legacy Case Feed is active in an organization, the Highlights Panel on Case records draws its field configuration from the Case Feed Layout, not from the standard Case page layout. As a result, changes made to the standard layout are not reflected in the Highlights Panel.
