Salesforce Last Activity Field Not Updated For All Contact Records Using Outlook and Gmail Integration's Log Email Action

Descripción

Understand why after using the Log Email feature in Outlook Integration or Gmail Integration, the user may notice that not all related Contact records will have an updated Last Activity field value. This could occur when the Activity Settings 'Allow Users to Relate Multiple Contacts to Tasks and Events' is enabled, and if there are multiple Contacts related to the single Email Message/Task record. This behavior may also happen when logging emails in a similar fashion with Salesforce for Outlook and Email to Salesforce.

When the Activity Setting "Allow Users to Relate Multiple Contacts to Tasks and Events" is enabled and there are multiple Contacts related to a single email message or task record, it is expected behavior to not see all related Contacts records reflecting an updated Last Activity field value.  Due to database factors, we need to determine the Primary Contact to relate the records correctly.  The Primary Contact cannot be selected during the Log Email process and therefore the related record is arbitrary and causes this discrepency.

When the previously mentioned Activity Setting feature is enabled, which allows the user to relate multiple Contacts to a Task/Event, only one Contact record has the Last Activity field updated (Let's refer to this Contact as the Primary Contact).

For example: If a user logs an email, and relates it to 4 Contact records, only one of those Contacts is the Primary Contact.
