Admin Assist Requests to Delete Inactive Picklist Values

게시 일자: Aug 25, 2025
상세 설명

When logging a case for Admin Assist to delete Inactive Picklist values, please keep in mind the following:

First, if you have an integration, website picklist, recurring import process, etc. that is creating unnecessary picklist values, we advise you to fix the data issue at the source. This is the best solution to stopping unwanted picklist values from entering your data. Admin Assist may deny requests that have no likelihood of being completed or needing more time than is feasible.

There are two possible processes Admin Assist may use and will review each request and process with your approval.

Option 1:
If each value must have a replacement or be blank:

1. Provide a list of the Inactive Values or confirm all Inactive Values are to be deleted.
2. Admin Assist will begin replacing each value, updating as progress is made.
3. For large numbers of picklist values, we’ll create a new case after every 1000 picklist values deleted.

Option 2:
If removing all Inactive Values and plan to use a Data Update for records with Inactive Values
This option deletes all Inactive Picklist values for a specific custom picklist field. We recommend obtaining a data export of the impacted data before submitting a request or before approving this process.

  1. Inactive Picklist values that still reside on records will be deleted and be replaced with the numeric table value of the inactive picklist value (1,25,123, and so on). To avoid this, we recommend updating your data to remove undesired inactive picklist values, moving them either to blank values or active values.
  2. If you must keep inactive picklist values for historic purposes, a data update must be done after the delete to reinsert the desired historic inactive values. *You can also use values as part of a data review process if you decide to not update before this delete option.
  3. This may be faster than Option 1, however, note the stated differences.

Additionally, deleting a value in a global picklist value set or on non-global, restricted picklists goes to the background jobs queue. When the job completes, your picklist is updated and you’re notified by email. See Manage Inactive Picklist Values.
