Salesforce for Outlook side panel becomes blank when the plus sign is clicked

Дата публикации: Jun 11, 2026
Описание

In the Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) integration, the side panel may go blank or become stuck on the loading screen when the Quick Action (+) button is clicked and a record type such as Task or Contact is selected. This issue is caused by a Microsoft Office or Outlook update that affects how Outlook renders add-in web content.
Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Click the Quick Action (+) sign in the SFO side panel.
  2. Select an object such as Task or Contacts.
  3. The side panel turns blank or stays on a loading screen.

Root Cause: This issue is triggered by Microsoft Office/Outlook updates released after mid-2018, specifically versions after:

  • Version 1807 (Build 10325.20118)
  • Version 1808 (Build 10730.20088 or 10730.20102)
  • Version 1809 (Build 10827.20138 or 10827.20150)

Two solutions are available to resolve the blank side panel issue in Salesforce for Outlook (SFO): applying a Windows registry fix, or downgrading Microsoft Office to an earlier version.

Solution 1: Apply the Windows Registry Fix

Microsoft has provided a registry-based fix. This registry entry sets the browser emulation mode for Outlook add-ins to Internet Explorer 11 compatibility mode (value 3), which restores side panel functionality.

  1. Close all Outlook windows and exit Salesforce for Outlook from the System Tray icon.
  2. Open Registry Editor:
    1. Press Windows + R, type REGEDIT, and press Enter. OR
    2. Search for REGEDIT in the Windows search bar.
  3. In Registry Editor, navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options
  4. Select the Options folder, right-click it, and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  5. Name the new value: BrowserEmulationModeConfig
    1. If this value already exists, skip to step 6.
  6. Double-click the value, select the Decimal radio button, and enter 3. Click OK.
  7. Close Registry Editor, restart your computer, and verify the issue is resolved.

Note: If the BrowserEmulationModeConfig value already exists, simply confirm it is set to 3 (Decimal).

Solution 2: Downgrade Microsoft Office

If you prefer not to edit the registry, your IT department can downgrade Office to a version where the side panel worked correctly (for example, Version 1806, Build 10228.20080, released July 2018).

  1. Uninstall Salesforce for Outlook via Control Panel (press Windows + R, type appwiz.cpl, locate Salesforce for Outlook, and click Uninstall).
  2. Follow the Microsoft guidance to revert to an earlier Office version.
  3. After downgrading, disable automatic Office updates: go to Office Account > Update Options to prevent the issue from recurring.
  4. Reinstall Salesforce for Outlook.
