Salesforce In-App Spell Checker Retirement

Julkaisupäivä: Apr 12, 2025
Kuvaus

What changed?

The Salesforce in-app Spell Checker service is no longer available as of the Summer '16 release, and you are encouraged to use the browser-based spell checking instead. This feature provides spell-checking functionality for text areas within Salesforce Classic, including:

  • Sales Cloud: Body field for Notes, Comments for Tasks, and Events
  • Service Cloud: Description field for Cases and Solutions
  • Email

NOTE: There is no impact on Lightning Experience as the spell-checker functionality is only supported in Salesforce Classic.

Why did we retire this product?

Removal of the spell-checker functionality is a part of our effort to follow best practices for spell-checking and modernize the Salesforce app experience.

What did you recommend?

Salesforce encouraged you to enable browser-based spell checking and utilize browser-based spell checking as an alternative.

Customers should note the following:

  • Browser-based spell checking can be used to do spell checking within the fields outlined above as long as this browser feature is not disabled.
  • All browsers that Salesforce supports contain built-in spell checking except IE9. NOTE: Microsoft has stopped supporting IE9 as of January 12, 2016
  • Browser-based spell checking still does not work for select Salesforce features, such as:
    • Some standard rich text areas
    • Chatter desktop
    • Inline editing for updating case information (only works in "edit" mode)
  • Browser-based spell checking may lack the following:
    • Thesaurus
    • Custom dictionaries
