Duplicate Account or Contact Records in a Salesforce Report That Contains Territory Fields

게시 일자: Jul 13, 2026
상세 설명

In Salesforce CRM, reports may display duplicate Account or Contact records when the report includes a Territory field as a column, grouping, or filter. This behavior occurs because Standard Report Types and Custom Report Types handle Territory fields differently.
For example, in a standard "Contacts and Accounts" report:

  • If no Territory field is used as a column, grouping, or report filter, the report behaves as Contacts with Accounts — each record appears once.
  • If at least one Territory field is selected, the report behaves as Contacts with Accounts and Territories — and any Account or Contact assigned to two different Territories, or assigned to the same Territory for different reasons, is returned once per Territory assignment.

As a result, a single Account or Contact record may appear multiple times in the report output.

How to Avoid Duplicate Records in Territory Reports

To prevent duplicate records from appearing in the report, use one of the following approaches:
Option 1 — Remove Territory fields from the report
Remove all Territory field columns, groupings, and filters from the report. When no Territory field is present, the report reverts to the standard "Contacts with Accounts" behavior and each record appears only once.
Option 2 — Use a Custom Report Type
Create a Custom Report Type that does not include Territory relationships. Reports based on Custom Report Types do not apply the Territory-based join logic that causes duplication in Standard Report Types.
Either option prevents duplication and displays each Account or Contact record only once in the report.
