Error 'You're not connected to Salesforce' in the Salesforce for Outlook side panel

Issue

Salesforce for Outlook side panel loads in Outlook but it does not connect, you may see the spinning icon or the message, "You're not connected to Salesforce."
 
 
Ratkaisu

This issue seems to be related to Internet Explorer Emulation. After a recent Office update, Outlook is now enforcing IE10 instead of IE11, regardless of the browser emulation set to IE11. 

Please check with your IT team to make sure the salesforce.com domain or any of our subdomains are not running in the IE Compatibility mode (Either added manually or through Group Policy). This is something that needs to be sorted out by your IT team. It appears that Microsoft has started enforcing IE 10.

Please review Remove sites from a local compatibility view list on the Microsoft website to remove sites from a local compatibility view list. 

Deselecting the Display intranet sites in Compatibility View from IE11 | Tools (Alt + X) | Compatibility View Settings may allow the side panel to load.
