Salesforce Data Storage: Estimated Record Size by Object Type

Julkaisupäivä: Jul 14, 2026
Kuvaus

Most Salesforce records consume approximately 2 KB of data storage. Some record types, such as Campaigns, Articles, and Person Accounts, require more storage due to their additional fields and rich text content. Understanding record storage sizes helps Salesforce administrators plan data storage capacity and avoid reaching organization storage limits.

Important Notes:

  • File storage is tracked separately from data storage. Files consume the actual size of the uploaded file.
  • To view your organization's current storage consumption, navigate to Setup and refer to Monitor Data and Storage Resources.

    Estimated Storage by Object Type

The following list provides estimated data storage consumed by each Salesforce standard object type. These figures are approximations and may vary based on custom fields, rich text area content, and related records. Use these as a planning reference when managing your organization's data storage allocation.

    • Leads — 2 KB
    • Contacts — 2 KB

    Storage Notes and Exceptions

The following notes explain storage variations for specific object types:

    • Articles (4 KB): Storage may vary based on the content of rich text area (RTA) fields. Images embedded in RTA fields are stored in the file storage area and are not counted against data storage.
    • Email Messages (2 KB): Storage varies depending on whether the email is HTML or plain text. For example, a 100 KB HTML email message consumes 100 KB of data storage. Text-only emails consume less storage because they do not include HTML markup and text-version duplicates.
    • Person Accounts (4 KB): A Person Account is a junction of two individual records — one Account and one Contact. For example, 500,000 Person Accounts require approximately 1.9 GB of storage, calculated as: (500,000 × 4 KB) ÷ 1,024 = 1,953 MB ÷ 1,024 ≈ 1.9 GB.
    • Quote Line Items, Order Line Items, Work Order Line Items (2 KB): Line items are child records related to a parent Quote or Order. Their 2 KB allocation is separate and does not count toward the parent record's storage.
