Error 'Validation Errors While Saving Record(s)' or 'This List API name already exists' when creating or editing a list view

Fecha de publicación: May 25, 2026
Descripción

When you attempt to create or edit a List View in Classic or Lightning Experience, you may experience one of the following errors:

Error in Salesforce Classic

Validation Errors While Saving Record(s). There were custom validation error(s) encountered while saving the affected record(s).

Error in Lightning Experience

Couldn't create this list view. Review the errors on this page. This list API name already exists. Choose a different name.

Cause :

You may be attempting to create a List View with a name that already exists, resulting in the same API name for the List View and generating the error.

This can happen when another User that has the Manage Public List View permission uses their Edit permissions to hide a List View from other Users, including you. You then attempt to create a List View with the same name as their hidden List View, generating the error.

Solución

Considerations :

While it is not possible to restrict Users from editing a List View, you can consider the following while creating your List View:

  • Create your List View with a different API Name
  • Locate a User with access to the List View that has your desired name and have them either change the List View visibility back to All Users so you can have access or request that they change the name of their List View

Note: System Administrators with access to login as another User can also perform this action.
