The Standard object called 'Individual' was introduced as of the Spring '18 release. The Individual object lets you store details about Data Privacy and Protection preferences. First set up data privacy records, then encrypt the Individual Name field with the type of tenant secret and encryption scheme of your choice. Follow these steps to let your users track and store certain Data Privacy preferences.
Enable Data Privacy and Protection:

To create new Individual Records from a Lead or Contact:
The New button appears, so you can create a record and associate to a specific Lead or Contact (if required).
NOTE: if you are trying to send email and see the error: "You're restricted from sending email" check your Data Privacy and Protection settings along with the permissions on any Individual Records associated with Object you are sending from.
