Lightning Sync is a Salesforce feature that synchronizes contacts and calendar events between Salesforce and Google Workspace (formerly G Suite). Salesforce administrators can run the Lightning Sync connection test to verify that connectivity between Google and Salesforce is working correctly.
When running the Lightning Sync connection test, you may encounter one or both of the following error messages:
These errors most commonly occur when the required OAuth 2.0 (Open Authorization) scopes in the Google Admin Console are missing or configured incorrectly. OAuth 2.0 is the authentication protocol that Salesforce uses to access Google Contacts and Google Calendar data on behalf of users. Without the correct scopes in Domain Wide Delegation, Salesforce cannot authenticate with Google APIs.
Important: Lightning Sync is not available for new Salesforce customers as of Winter '21. If you are an existing Lightning Sync customer, follow the resolution steps below to fix scope-related connectivity issues.
The Lightning Sync connection test checks several points of connectivity between Salesforce and Google Workspace. The most common cause of this error is missing or incorrectly configured OAuth 2.0 scopes under Domain Wide Delegation in the Google Admin Console.
Follow the steps below to review and correct the required scopes.

If the OAuth scopes are correctly configured but the error persists, verify that the Google Calendar and Google Contacts APIs are enabled in your Google Workspace account. Disabled APIs will also cause connectivity failures regardless of scope configuration.
