Error 'Salesforce for Outlook Setup Wizard ended prematurely'

Description
ISSUE

When trying to install Salesforce for Outlook, after selecting the language option, the installation wizard fails with the following error

The Salesforce For Outlook Setup Wizard ended prematurely 

Salesforce for Outlook setup ended prematurely because of an error. 
Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later 
time, please run the installation again. 

Click the "Finish" button to exit the Setup Wizard
 
  Note: The following procedure also applies for the error 'adxregistrator' which appears in the log files when trying to install Salesforce for Outlook.
 
Résolution

In order to address this issue, you may need to reach out to your internal Help Desk to perform the following steps;
1. If you are installing the application per machine ( with the Everyone who logs into this computer) option make sure no other user who logged into the machine has it installed with the per user ( Me Only) option.
2. To do this, navigate to c:\users\ and double click on every user's folder.
3. Navigate to appdata\local\programs and see if the Salesforce folder exists if it does you can ask that user to login and uninstall or follow the steps in Full uninstall and manual clean-up for Salesforce for Outlook  you would probably still need to perform the step X below

  • Next, make sure you have uninstalled the following applications from your Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features
- %AppData%\salesforce.com\Salesforce for Outlook
- C:\Program Files (x86)\salesforce.com\Salesforce for Outlook OR C:\Program Files\salesforce.com\Salesforce.com
  • In some cases you would need to delete the content of the %Temp% folder as well



Searching the Registry to manually clean up corrupted or keys left behind from the previous

1- Press and hold down the Windows key on your keyboard and the press the R key to open up Windows Registry Editor
2- On the left pane, scroll all the way up and click to select the Computer icon
3- On the top menu, click on the Edit | Find Search for the following keywords on at a time and delete them.

SalesforceForOutlook  (Check the "Match whole string only" option when you search for this keyword)
adxloader
Sfdcmsol

NOTE - There may be a lot of entries as for your search result, please make sure you keep pressing the F3 key on your keyboard until you find every entry and delete them all. Make sure to see the "Finished searching through the registry" popup message. 

Now its time to install the Salesforce For Outlook application 

1- Login to your Salesforce org and download and save the installer ( use the .EXE version). Refer to the Download the Salesforce for Outlook Installer article for more information 
2- Right click on the downloaded file and click on the Properties from the pop up menu and make sure on the General tab the application is not blocked, If you see the unblock button click on it and then click on OK
3- Make sure all your Office applications are closed, specially Outlook and then run the installer normally. For more information on installation process refer to the following articles
