Customize the sort order of Salesforce CPQ Quote Lines in Quote Documents

Example scenario

You charge shipping for items you sell, such as books. You want each book and its shipping to display in pairs to your users (in the Quote Line Editor), yet you want shipping to display at the bottom of all line items in a generated Quote Document.
 

Set up a separate sort order for your generated quote document

1. Create a custom formula field on the Quote Line object that determines how you want line items sorted in your quote documents. For example, this could be the date created or the package product ID, followed by the component product ID. If two line items have the same value in this field, such as create date, Salesforce CPQ uses the quote line number field to subsort quote line items with the same value in this sort order formula field.
2. Copy the API name of this new formula field and paste it as a value in the Line Sort Field picklist field on the Quote Template object. This controls which field determines the sort order of quote line items in a generated quote document using this template.
3. Select the formula field name from the Line Sort Field picklist on the appropriate Quote Templates.
 
NOTE: Manually grouped line items will be sorted by the new formula field within their groups.
