As of the Salesforce Spring '18 release, the Salutation field on the Contact edit page layout has been separated from the First Name field. Prior to this release, the Salutation picklist was appended directly to the First Name field when editing a Contact record. After the Spring '18 update, Salutation appears as a standalone picklist field on the Contact edit page layout. Note that the Salutation field is mandatory and cannot be removed from the Contact edit page layout.
After the Spring '18 Major Release, the Salutation field on the Contact edit page is now a separate picklist field, unlike prior releases where Salutation was appended with the First Name field. For more details on Contact standard fields, see Contact Standard Fields.
Picklist values for the Salutation field on the Contact object can only be created, edited, reordered, or replaced in Salesforce Classic at this time. This capability is not yet available in Lightning Experience.
The Salutation field is mandatory on the Contact object and cannot be removed from the edit page layout.
