Marketing Cloud Engagement Connect: Assign Business Units to the Marketing Cloud API User for Enterprise 2.0 accounts

In Marketing Cloud Connect for Enterprise 2.0 accounts, the Marketing Cloud API User's Business Unit access determines which Business Units are available for use within Sales Cloud or Service Cloud. If Business Units are missing from the Sales or Service Cloud integration, or if newly created Business Units are not appearing in connected orgs, the API User may not have those Business Units assigned. This article walks through assigning Business Units to the Marketing Cloud API User via Setup and Email Studio Admin.

Setup

  1. In the Marketing Cloud, navigate to Setup.
  2. Expand Users tab.
  3. Click Users
  4. Select the checkbox next to the Marketing Cloud API User.
  5. Click Manage Business Units at the top of the Users table.
  6. Ensure the selection under 'Default Business Unit' is the top-level Business Unit.
  7. In the 'Associated Business Units' section, select all Business Units to be used with Marketing Cloud Connect.
  8. Click Save.

Email Studio

  1. In the Marketing Cloud, navigate to Email Studio.
  2. Click Admin.
  3. Click My Users.
  4. Select the checkbox next to the Marketing Cloud API User.
  5. Click Manage Business Units at the top of the Users table.
  6. Ensure the selection under 'Default Business Unit' is the top-level Business Unit.
  7. In the 'Associated Business Units' section, select all Business Units to be used with Marketing Cloud Connect.
  8. Click Save.

Important Notes

  • New Business Units: Repeat this process each time you create a new Business Unit that needs to be used with Marketing Cloud Connect.
  • Multi-Org accounts: The Default Business Unit of the Marketing Cloud API User may vary depending on which Business Units are integrated. For example, if the top-level Business Unit is not connected but Child Business Unit 1 is, set the Default Business Unit to Child Business Unit 1 — not the top-level Business Unit.
