Object names in Custom Report Types

The object name displayed for an Object may be different depending on whether it is the primary Object in the Custom Report Type or a subsequent Object. 

Ratkaisu
The selection for the primary object on a Custom Report Type is based on the 'Plural Label' field on the object itself. To view this field, access the object record page in Setup. 

The selection for the secondary and subsequent objects is a bit more complicated. This label is determined by the "Related List Label" on the field that defines the object relationship. In order to view this field, first determine which field relates the two objects that are being added to the Custom Report Type. Open the field in Setup and go to the 'Related List Label' field. This is what is used in the list of objects available for the secondary and subsequent objects on the Custom Report Type. 

Best Practices dictate that there not be a duplicate label used across the 'Plural Label' and 'Related List Label' fields.
