Salesforce for Outlook install fails with .NET Framework 4

Udgivelsesdato: Jun 28, 2026
Beskrivelse

This article addresses installation failures that occur when installing Salesforce for Outlook (SFO) on a Windows computer, specifically when the installer attempts to install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0 as a prerequisite. Salesforce for Outlook is a plugin that integrates Salesforce CRM data with Microsoft Outlook, allowing users to sync contacts, events, and emails.
During installation, one of the following two errors may appear:

Error 1 — Generic Trust Failure

Installation Did Not Succeed .NET Framework 4.0 has not been installed because: Generic trust failure

This error typically occurs when the list of trusted root certificates on the Windows computer is corrupted or outdated. This is a Windows configuration issue, not a Salesforce issue.

Error 2 — HRESULT 0xc8000222

Installation Did Not Succeed .NET Framework 4 has not been installed because: HRESULT 0xc8000222

This error typically occurs when the Windows Update temporary folder (SoftwareDistribution) has become corrupted. This is also a Windows configuration issue, not a Salesforce issue.
